Udupi, Sep 1: In a rare incident which happened at Malpe, a goods tempo that had arrived at the fishing port to load fish slipped and drowned in the seawater.
The fish catches from the sea are emptied at Malpe port. Goods tempos are normally stationed next to the place where the boats get anchored and the fish is loaded into the tempo. When this process was in progress, the boat slowly moved back.
The goods tempo had been attached to the boat when fish was getting loaded. When the tempo moved backwards, the goods tempo also moved with it and fell into the sea. The tempo drowned completely. It was later lifted out by tying it to a chain fixed to the crane.
The tempo in question belongs to Vittal Poojary. A case in this connection was registered in Malpe police station. Reportedly, water entered the tempo engine, causing loss of several thousands of rupees.
