Gadag, Sep 1: Holding negligence on the part of the doctors and hospital staff of Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) responsible for the death of a coronavirus patient, relatives of the deceased assaulted the doctors and other staff of the hospital on Monday August 31.

A resident of Chinchali village in the taluk, suffering from high fever had been brought to GIMS for treatment on Monday morning. Because of the non-availability of bed, he was made to wait for long before he was admitted. He died before the corona test report was received.

The relatives of the deceased patient complained that the doctors had not treated the patient properly. They shattered some window glasses at the hospital. Doctors and a few staff members were injured in the incident.

The doctors and staff at the hospital held a protest and expressed anguish at this incident. They said that because of coronavirus fear, they have been staying away from their families to serve the needy. They pointed out that several doctors and staff have tested corona-positive so far, and questioned the rationale behind assaulting the doctors and staff who are serving the people in this difficult situation.
