Kadaba, Sep 1: Report received from Puthila in Bilinele village in the taluk said that a wild elephant which came in contact with live wire there lost its life. The tragedy perhaps happened on the night of Monday August 31 or early hours of Tuesday.
The elephant had come to the roadside searching for food. It touched the power line that passes by the roadside, and died.
In all likelihood, the elephant would have tried to pull a branch of a tree towards itself. On this occasion, the severed branch of the tree might have fallen on the power line, and the severed power cable in turn would have come in contact with the elephant.
The ill-fated male elephant was about 12 years old. The locals who saw the carcass of the elephant on Tuesday morning informed the forest department.
Forest officials from Subrahmanya arrived at the spot. They are conducting scrutiny. Exact cause of the animal's death will be revealed after the receipt of post-mortem report.
