Udupi, Aug 31: Facing funds crunch, Sri Krishna Math has approached a bank with a proposal of loan amounting to a crore of rupees. On account of coronavirus-induced lockdown, the revenue of the Math has totally dried up and the Paryaya Admar Math is in need of money to meet the day-to-day expenditure of the Math, sources in Paryaya Admar Math stated.
Admar Swamiji Sri Ishapriya Theertha, speaking to media persons on the loan borrowed from the bank said, “I had applied for bank loan Rs 1 crore and we have received Rs 15 lac from the bank. Loans will increase our responsibility and will keep us committed and alert. We will repay the loans to the bank. We are getting an amount from the bank whenever required."

“Even big companies take loans for their business. After the news came in the media, many devotees and donors came forward to help us and assured their help in case a need arises. Our ancestors also took loans. Our senior Swamiji Vibhudesha Theertha took Rs 60 lac loan from the bank during his period and left Rs 25 lac balance amount. We never asked for financial assistance from anybody. Not even from the government. We wanted to be independent and self-reliant. We have given donations to the government. In fact, in this pandemic situation, we do not want to depend on the government," he said.
“We cannot take all the treasure which has been nurtured and managed by our ancestors with so much care. Every religious centre will have basic funds in its trust. We cannot touch that," Swamiji added.
“Public has started to question us like there are many educational institutions run by Admar Math. What was the need of taking a loan? Why can they not be managed by educational funds? I would like to respond that colleges or educational institutions are not for making money. Those funds are used for management purposes," he maintained.
“There are staff working in Sri Krishna Math even after the paryaya. So we need to pay their salary, for their meals and so on. We did painting works in Sri Krishna Math during the lockdown. I hope we have blessings of Lord Sri Krishna”, he said.
