Hassan, Aug 30: An elderly couple was found murdered in Alagondanahalli of Channarayapatna taluk on Sunday August 30.
Muralidhar (71) and Umadevi (67) were suffocated to death using pillows. The murderers escaped from the spot after committing the heinous crime.
The incident is among the several incidents of crime thatNine murders have taken place in the last month in the district, including this one.
Father of deceased Muralidhar was a freedom fighter. So the government had given him 80 acres of land. The couple did not have any children. Muralidhar was graduate in B Sc agriculture. As he was interested in agriculture, the couple was living in the outskirts of the village in the home they built on 80 acres of land.
It is said that the couple had sold the land recently. It is suspected that the murderers must have thought that the couple was keeping the proceeds from the sale of the land at home and killed both husband and wife.
In the last month six murders have taken place in Channarayapatna taluk. In addition one police officer has also killed himself. Public is saying that the police department, law and order and public representatives are not working properly.
SP Srinivasgowda has visited the spot of murder and further investigation is on. A case in this connection is registered in Channarayapatna rural police station.
