Udupi, Aug 29: President of Udupi district unit of Karnataka Government Medical Doctors Association, Dr Prakash Kumar Shetty, has laid bare the travails being undergone by the Covid warriors in working up to the expectations of the government.
"The government has been pressurizing us to increase Covid tests in order to control the spread of the pandemic. It has set a target of conducting tests ten times the number of positive cases found the previous day. In this district, it is becoming a daunting task to meet this expectation. Because, we have a shortage of 40 percent medical staff in the district," he explained in a video.

Shetty pointed out that the corona cases in the district have crossed 10,000 mark, and there are over 3,000 active cases as of now. He wondered how the government can expect the doctors to function to the optimum level with a shortage of 1,500 medical professionals.
"Your job does not end by setting targets to the staff. You also have to appoint corona warriors. There has been a crescendo to bring down the pressure on the staff. We are ready to work even risking our lives. But there should be a proper support system," he said, echoing the sentiments of corona warriors.
