Aug 28: DK records highest single-day spike with 448 cases, Udupi tally crosses 11,000-mark

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 28: In a major spike, Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Friday August 28 recorded its single-day highest of 448 fresh coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi recorded 174 new cases and two deaths.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 11,837 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,521 are currently active. A total of 91,490 samples have been tested so far, out of which 79,653 are negative.

As many as 8,973 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 293 on Friday which include 11 from Covid care centres, 170 from home isolation and 112 from hospitals. A total of 343 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Friday.

Among the 297 new cases, 61 are primary contacts, 99 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 14 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 123 cases are under investigation. As many as 174 out of the 297 are asymptomatic.

Out of the 448 cases, as many as 273 are from Mangaluru, 103 from Bantwal, 27 from Puttur and 17 from Sullia, 18 from Beltangady and 10 are from outside DK district.

All the six patients who died on Friday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, one each were reported from Bantwal, Puttur and district outside DK.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,531 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 105 fresh admissions on Friday, while a total of 4,549 people are in home isolation, including 69 new on Friday.

As many as 8,384 people, including 187 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,292 from hospital isolation wards, and 3,092 from home isolation.

A total of 69,302 samples have been collected so far, including 515 on Friday, out of which 253 are COVID suspects and 98 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 57,691 have turned out to be negative, including 600 on Friday, and 524 reports are awaited.

As many as 11,087 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 174 on Friday, and 2,608 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 95 deaths have occurred so far, including two on Friday.

Among the 174 new cases, 67 are in Udupi, 85 in Kundapur, 13 in Karkala, and nine from outside the district. Among them, 93 acquired the virus through contacts, 58 have ILI, four have been diagnosed with SARI, and 18 are under investigation. One patient have domestic travel history. Out of the 174 cases, 105 are asymptomatic.

The two deaths reported are of a male aged 57 and a female aged 66, both from Udupi. Both the patients had co-morbidities.

    I read as below
    6531 people ARE IN covid hospital/care center
    But showing active case is less than 6531.

    Y negative people / recovered people are in covid hospital/care center???

    This is because of over confidence of some people of DK who just wear mask below their mouth instead of wearing it on nose and mouth and just acting smart and very busy. Some people just are normal without any mask as if everything is normal after lock down ended. If u ask them about wearing mask , they smilingly tell you AW POKKADE DHALA AJUJIYE . AW KELAVER BOD BOD PAND DH CORONA MALPUNI. They speak their own philosophy about COVID 19.
    I had similar experience in Mangalore when i spoke to a Grocery owner.
    In Dubai fine for not wearing mask is Rs 10000 and in Malaysia Rs 17000.

    Actually situation hasn't changed much, the DK Administration has increased testing so numbers will be higher only
