Ajman, Aug 24: Less than a year after its opening, Thumbay University Hospital, the region’s largest private academic hospital with 350 beds, located at Thumbay Medicity, Al Jurf, here, marked a significant milestone celebrating 1,000 deliveries under its ‘Center for Obstetrics and Gynaecology’.

A special ceremony to mark the occasion was held at the hospital recently. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, vice-president of the healthcare division of Thumbay Group was the chief guest of the function held in the presence of Dr Manvir Singh Walia, COO of Thumbay University Hospital and the medical and administrative staff of the hospital.

Commenting on the landmark achievement, Akbar Moideen Thumbay said that the birth of over 1000 babies at Thumbay University Hospital in such a short period of time is a reflection of the services provided by the hospital. “Less than a year after the hospital opened its door to the communities, it has evolved as a family-friendly healthcare destination. We are proud of this achievement. The hospital has developed a patient-centric healthcare model that takes into consideration the emotional and cultural needs of a patient in addition to their medical needs,” he said.

The hospital’s expert team of obstetricians, gynecologists, pediatricians and neonatologists have also successfully handled several high-risk pregnancy cases, complicated cases of premature deliveries etc. Of the total number of babies delivered, approximately 49% were girls and 51% were boys.

"In the past year, Thumbay University Hospital enjoyed the pleasure of celebrating with countless families as they welcomed new members. The Center for Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides modern preventive and curative specialized obstetric care of international standards in a world-class setup through its highly experienced and skilled obstetric team, endorsing its commitment towards healthy mothers with healthy babies,” said Dr Manvir Singh Walia.

Opened on October 7, 2019, the hospital’s growing popularity has been on account of its world-class facilities, combined with the expertise of some of the best doctors in the region. The hospital has a dedicated floor for Mother and Child care, including 10 Labor and Delivery Rooms, NICU, SCBU and Well-Baby Unit. Being a tertiary care university hospital, Thumbay University Hospital deals with all types of high-risk pregnancies on a daily basis. Starting from pre-conception consultation and screening, the Center for Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides appropriate advice and support to women prior to and throughout every stage of pregnancy and delivery.

Thumbay University Hospital has facilities like specialized ‘targeted ultrasound scan’, laboratory essays for detection of chromosomal abnormalities, aneuploidy markers, cell-free DNA analysis for genetic screening to name a few in addition to the routine investigations needed for the evaluation of high-risk pregnancies. An added advantage is the availability of a multidisciplinary team of doctors to handle complicated pregnancies. The Level-3 advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the hospital enables its efforts to salvage extremely premature born babies, particularly all cases of premature deliveries at least 24 weeks and above.

A non-COVID hospital, Thumbay University Hospital has taken strict measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its patients, visitors and staff, including steps to limit the movement of people and maintain social distancing within its premises. The hospital accepts all major insurance cards.
