Mumbai, Mar 22: Mysore Association felicitated renowned bollywood cinematographer V K Murthi, recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke Award, during a function held at Mysore Association Auditorium, Matunga, here on Sunday March 21.
Popular bollywood director Shyam Benagal was the chief guest. He inaugurated the photography exhibition based on the life of V K Murthi.
Film Producers Guild of India president Manmohan R Shetty, well-known autobiographer Uma Rao Bangalore were the guests of honour.
Mysore Association president V Ramachandra, along with Manmohan R Shetty and Uma Rao felicitated V K Murthi.
Dr Manjunath explained the life struggles of V K Murthi and his close association with Mysore Association in the metro. Govind Nihlani compered the programme.
About V K Murthi
He hails from Mysore and migrated to the metro in his childhood, where he succeeded to get a strong foothold in bollywood, out of his sheer hard work. He learnt the basics of photography from his mentor Fali Mistry. Murthi along with another Kannadiga photographer Gurudut revolutionized the video shooting. His skills in using shade and light for better pictures earned him laurels from well known bollywood directors. His photography immortalized the beauty of famous bollywood actors Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Wahida Rehman and others. It is for the first time in the history of Indian cinema, a cinematographer has bagged the coveted Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
