Panaji, Aug 8: Urging the ministers of water resources and revenue to resolve the long-pending issue of rehabilitation of farmers and families affected due to the Selaulim irrigation project, Sanguem MLA Prasad Goankar submitted a memorandum regarding the same.
He highlighted the need for change in classification of land at Vaddem and Valkini rehabilitation sites to be changed from Class-II to Class-I in order to grant ownership rights to the affected families and said that the ministers should jointly resolve the issue.
He said that to ascertain the open space, encroachments and regularization of land and ensure that the available area is properly utilized, a survey must be undertaken at the rehabilitation sites at Vaddem, Valkini, and Uguem.
The minister said that the 643 affected families who were allotted agriculture and housing plots as per the list by the water resources department are yet to be granted ownership as per verification reports and asked for re-verification to ascertain the claims.
Additionally, 72 affected families were not granted any benefits under the scheme, he added.
