Mumbai, Mar 11: The Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan on Wednesday March 10, said that while strengthening the police establishment it is also necessary to tackle terrorism and it was equally necessary that terrorism cases are tried by the judiciary expeditiously.
“If we fail to deliver justice within a reasonable period, citizens lose faith in the justice delivery system”, he said while addressing a national seminar on ‘Fight Against Terrorism’ organized by the Mumbai Police on Wednesday.
The Governor recalled that the city of Mumbai alone had in the last two decades faced the maximum brunt of terrorism and last month Pune had also witnessed the worst kind of terrorist activity. In this background he called for sustained efforts by the international community to end terrorism which had become a global menace.
The Governor said that apart from terrorism India is also facing the threat of insurgency, extremism, and Naxalism in different parts of the country. He said the country needs a comprehensive and multi-pronged strategy to deal with each of these forms of terrorism.
Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India, delivered the keynote address on the occasion.
Former director of Intelligence Bureau Shyamal Datta, defence analyst Uday Bhaskar, senior journalist M J Akbar, director general of police A N Roy and a large number of citizens and police officers were present on the occasion.
