Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 30: Dakshina Kannada on Thursday July 30 recorded 198 new cases and eight deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi witnessed a steep spike with 248 fresh cases and four deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 38,814 samples have been tested so far. As many as 33,305 have tested negative and 5,509 are tested positive till date. Out of these, 2,800 cases are currently active. As many as 2,561 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 150 deaths have occurred so far, including eight on Thursday.
As many as 105 patients were discharged on Thursday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Among the 198 new cases are 27 primary contacts, 80 with influenza-like illness (ILI), 14 with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) and four have international travel history. As many as 73 cases are under investigation.
The eight deaths that occurred on Thursday include a 36-year-old female from Puttur. She was admitted to private hospital on July 26, and breathed her last on July 28. She was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, refractory ARDS, renal failure and septic shock. The second patient was a 60-year-old female from Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 29, and passed away on the same day. She was suffering from refractory hypoxemia and respiratory failure. The third patient was a 60-year-old female from Davanagere. She was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 23, and passed away on July 29. She was suffering from acute respiratory infection, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and systematic hypertension. The fourth patient was a 57-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to a private hospital on June 26, and passed away on July 29. He was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, refractory ARDS, renal failure and acute coronary event. The fifth patient was a 75-year-old male from Mysuru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 26, and passed away on July 29. He was suffering from asthma, high blood pressure and pneumonia. The sixth patient was 64-year-old male from Puttur. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 22 and passed away on July 29. He was suffering from refractory hypoxemia and refractory ARDS. The seventh patient was a 52-year-old male from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 28 and passed away on July 29. He was suffering from acute coronary event and pulmonary thromboembolism. The eight patient was an 87-year-old female. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 18 and passed away on July 29. She was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, refractory ARDS and respiratory illness.
The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,403 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 313 people are in isolation wards, including 47 fresh admissions on Thursday. Among the new admissions, 23 are COVID suspects, nine have SARI and 15 have influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,570 people, including 20 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 31,044 samples have been collected so far, including 784 on Thursday, out of which 424 are COVID suspects and 254 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 26,292 have turned out to be negative, including 762 on Thursday, and 609 reports are awaited.
As many as 4,143 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 248 on Thursday. As many as 2,445 patients have been discharged so far, and 1,669 cases are currently active. As per district bulletin, 29 deaths have occurred so far including four on Thursday. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada. As many as 78 people were discharged on Thursday.
