Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 29: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday July 29 recorded 208 fresh cases and seven deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 173 new cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 37,014 samples have been tested so far. As many as 31,703 have turned out negative, and 5,311 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,715 cases are currently active. As many as 2,456 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 142 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Wednesday.
As many as 118 patients were discharged on Wednesday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Among the 208 new cases are 65 primary contacts, 73 with influenza-like illness (ILI), and 12 with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As many as 58 cases are under investigation.
The seven deaths that occurred on Wednesday include a 52-year-old male from Padubidiri. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 2, and breathed his last on July 27. He was diagnosed to have refractory hypoxemia, refractory septic shock, renal failure, arrhythmias and thromboembolism. The second patient was a 62-year-old male from Bantwal. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 24, and passed away July 28. He suffered from pneumonia and Leukaemia. The third patient was a 69-year-old female from Mangaluru. She was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 9, and passed away on July 28. She was undergoing dialysis and suffering from heart disease and pneumonia.
The fourth patient was a 73-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on June 23, and passed away on July 28. He suffered from diabetes and respiratory issues. The fifth patient was a 66-year-old male from Dharwad. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 12, and passed away on July 28. He was diagnosed to have respiratory failure, pneumonia and heart disease. The sixth patient was a 66-year-old male from Karwar. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 28 and passed away on the same day. He was suffering from respiratory failure. The seventh patient was a 39-year-old male from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 28 and passed away on the same day. He was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, refractory ARDS, secondary bacterial infection, renal failure and cardio respiratory failure.
The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,369 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 286 people are in isolation wards, including 42 fresh admissions on Wednesday. Among the new admissions, five are COVID suspects, 15 have SARI and 22 have influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,550 people, including 33 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 30,260 samples have been collected so far, including 824 on Wednesday, out of which 423 are COVID suspects and 306 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 25,530 have turned out to be negative, including 487 on Wednesday, and 835 reports are awaited.
As many as 3,895 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 173 on Wednesday. As many as 2,323 patients have been discharged so far, and 1,547 cases are currently active. As per district bulletin, 25 deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada. As many as 84 people were discharged on Wednesday.
