Bangalore: BJP MLA C T Ravi Under Pressure to Oppose Budget
Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)
Bangalore Mar 8: Under pressure from his followers, two-time MLA from Chikmagalur, C T Ravi, reportedly has indicated to the party leaders that he would resign from the membership of the assembly, in protest against the budget moved by Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa. It is said that more party legislators are also up in arms against the CM, who also happens to be the finance minister of the state.
Before the last assembly election, the Chief Minister had reportedly promised to adopt Chikmagalur district and develop it by sanctioning large funds, if his party comes to power. The fact that no budgettary proposals to provide additional funds to the district have been mooted, has frustrated the people of the district. The BJP workers have complained about non-declaration of any new facility or assistance to the district in the budget.
Ravi is said to have told the workers that he had risen to the present position by fighting for the welfare of the party workers and the district in general. “If I am unable to look after the interests of my constituency and its people, I do not believe in continuing in any position of power,” he is understood to have said.
The BJP leadership is caught in a new problem. They are afraid, that if the CM bows to the pressure tactics and sanctions funds to Chikmagalur district, other disgruntled legislators, particularly from North Karnataka, may come up with fresh demands and stake claim for their pound of flesh.
