Kaup, Jul 25: In a barbaric act, a person who murdered his own friend in a state of drunkenness and later tried to destroy evidence by burning the body. The incident happened at Punchalakadu in Kaup taluk on Friday July 24 morning, but the incident came out into the open with inordinate delay.
The victim of this incident was Hemanth Poojary (45), a resident of Yermal village. Albert D'Souza (50) from Punchalakadu has been accused of committing this murder. The police have arrested D'Souza.
It is gathered that both Hemanth and Albert had alcohol at a bar on Friday morning. Thereafter, Albert kicked up a quarrel with Hemanth on a silly pretext and hit his friend with a piece of wood. Hemanth died on the spot.
After committing the murder, Albert tried to incinerate the body at his courtyard. The locals grew suspicious of the foul smell which enveloped the area on that occasion and alerted the police. The half burnt body of Hemanth was recovered from the spot.
The police who collected information from the locals and succeeded in cracking the case, it is learnt. Kaup police circle inspector Mahesh Prasad, and Shirva police sub-inspector visited the spot, registered murder case and began investigation. This case stands registered at Shirva police station.
