Kundapur, Jul 24: Kota police station personnel arrested four people, including the driver of the truck that was transporting 59 buffaloes in an inhuman manner.
The police seized the truck and arrested the people on Friday, July 24 at Saibarakatte check post during routine check-up of vehicles. The buffaloes were being transported from Haryana to Kerala.
The truck arrived to the check post at around 3 am when probationary SP Santhosh of Kota police station was on duty of checking the vehicles. When the cops checked the vehicle, they were surprised to find 59 buffaloes stuffed in an inhuman manner.
The value of animals rescued in the incident has been estimated at Rs two lac. The arrested accused are Jabbar (35), Jomun (36), and Shamshuddin (34), all from Kerala, and Mukheem (18) from Haryana. In a case registered in Kota police station, owner of the buffaloes, Abdul Aziz from Kerala and owner of the container, Rafiq from Mysuru, have also been named as accused.
The rescued buffaloes were shifted to Nilavar Goshala. The case is this regard was registered by Ananta Padmanabha, circle inspector of Brahmavar and Kota station officer Santhosh B.
