Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 23: Dakshina Kannada on Thursday July 23 recorded 218 new cases and seven deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi registered 160 fresh cases and one death.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 31,068 samples have been tested so far. As many as 26,854 have turned out negative, and 4,214 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,253 cases are currently active. As many as 1,862 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 99 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Thursday. Among the deceased, 12 are from other districts.
As many as 118 patients were discharged on Thursday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Of the 218 who tested positive on Thursday, 36 are primary contacts, 110 have ILI symptoms, 16 have SARI symptoms, and contacts of 57 are being traced.
Among the seven deaths that occurred on Thursday, the first one is of a 36-year-old male, a resident of Davanagere. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 16, and breathed his last on July 22. He was suffering from sepsis septic shock, acute liver injury, and acute kidney injury, acute on chronic pancreatitis, ARDS, and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. The second is a 69-year-old male, a resident of Bhatkal. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 7, and passed away July 22. He suffered from heart disease, cancer, renal failure and pulmonary thromboembolism. The third is a 52-year-old male, a resident of Pallakad Kerala. He was admitted to a Wenlock hospital on July 19, and passed away on July 22. He suffered from diabetes, ARDS and respiratory issues. The fourth is an 83-year-old male, a resident of Mangaluru. He was admitted to a Wenlock hospital on June 13, and passed away on July 22. He suffered from blood pressure, heart disease and pneumonia. The fifth is a 73-year-old male from Mangaluru. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 21, and passed away on July 22. He was suffering from diabetes mellitus, hypertension, old cerebrovascular accident, hyponatraemia and acute on chronic kidney disease. The sixth is a 58-year-old female from Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 11 and passed away on July 22. She was suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The seventh is a 52-year-old male from Bantwal. He was admitted to private hospital on July 21 and passed away on July 22. He was suffering from heart disease.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,684 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 202 people are in isolation wards, including 45 fresh admissions on Thursday. Among the new admissions, 10 are COVID suspects, 11 have SARI and 24 influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,401 people, including 32 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 26,370 samples have been collected so far, including 622 on Thursday, out of which 49 are COVID suspects and 405 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 22,871 have turned out to be negative, including 276 on Thursday, and 653 reports are awaited.
As many as 2,846 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 160 on Thursday. As many as 1,841 patients have been discharged so far including 65 on Thursday, and 994 cases are currently active. Twelve deaths have occurred so far including one on Thursday who was a 70-year-old woman from Brahmavar. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the new cases, 87 are in Udupi, 60 in Kundapur, and 13 in Karkala. They include 87 men, 59 women, and five boys and nine girls. Among them, six have travel history to Mumbai, two to Bengaluru, one each to Pune and Mangaluru, 42 have ILI symptoms and four have SARI symptoms.
