Karnataka ranks last in coronavirus recovery rate

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 23: Corona infection in the state jumped 466 per cent for the period ended July 21. As such, out of 10 states with large scale corona infection, Karnataka has slumped to the last position.

Karnataka had 15,242 infected persons as on June 30 this year. This number swelled by 55,827 as of July 21 and reached the figure of 71,069. This resulted in a jump of infected persons by 466 per cent.

Till June 30, 7918 persons had been discharged from the hospital. Now, the percentage of people cured of the infection which stood at 55 per cent earlier, has come down to 36 per cent now.

However, this is not a worrying situation as normally infected people have already spent 12 days in the hospital on an average. In July they have started to recover fully and by the end of July, the number of healed people will see a quantum jump. If the infection rate comes down, this will result in further improvement in percentage, officials say.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and New Delhi are the top three states which have the highest infections. Karnataka stands fourth. But Delhi with 85 per cent cure rate, stands first. Karnataka with 36 per cent recovery is placed last.

In Maharashtra, out of 3,27,031 infected persons, 1,82,217 (56%) have been cured. Over 1,32,236 active infected persons continue to be treated there. Out of 1,80,643 infected persons in Tamil Nadu, 1,26,670 (69%) have healed, and there are 51,347 active infected persons. Delhi has 1,25,096 total infected persons out of which 1,06,118 (85%) have been cured. There are only 15,166 active infected people now.

Out of 58,668 infected persons of Andhra Pradesh, 25,574 people comprising 44 per cent have recovered and 28,800 continue to be treated. In Uttar Pradesh, out of 53,288 infected persons, 31,855 (60%) have healed and 19,137 continue to be in hospitals. The recovery percentage of Gujarat is 72 per cent whereas 11,761 persons are under treatment.

This is ridiculous. How can you expect higher recovery rate when the peak cases are in last 2 weeks. Wait for another 2 weeks, the recovery rate will improve.

Health delivery system is one among the most corrupt in the country. Government is not interested to recruit doctors and DHO is interested to engage specialists on contract. The prevailing kickback is one to two months gross salary. The most interesting fact is that not a single permanent staff doctor in Health Department has contracted corona virus but lot of PG Students and nurses has. Funds are allocated to all institutes and the in charge remitting the biggest sum during end of the year unspent will be identified for promotion. No basic medicines in hospitals. PG students on covid duty in Davangare went on three weeks strike to get their pending stipend for 16 months. The Deputy Collector rather doing his duty to enforce government order threatened the students with arrest and imprisonment. No basic facilities in government hospitals. Senior staff doctors are not transferred frequently as it will adversly affect their private practice and private hospital set up. Go to Balki taluk hospital and four senior specialists has their own private hospitals and other doctors compulsorily has to refer poor patients to them. DHO of Bidar is very supportive and these doctors has never seen a transfer during last 10-12 years. Incredible set up where interests of patients are always at backseat.....!

Good job yeddy. Your policies and the inability to take strong decisions got us here. Your over dependence on Modi. Mark my words, now you dont know what to do. Now you have raised your hands in defeat and you have let us the common middle class and the poor to fend fir themselves. Trust me i may get a lot of dislikes, but God forbid, when this coroba starts affecting the bhakths in a big way, only then your eyes will open. You doomed us. You and your governments arrogance doomed us. Paycuts, job losses, so many livelihoods destroyed. You wont understand all this because you are protected.
