July 22: DK records 162 cases, five deaths; Udupi reports highest single-day spike with 281

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 22: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday July 22 recorded 162 fresh cases and five deaths. Meanwhile, in a major spike, Udupi registered its highest ever single-day rise with 281 cases.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 30,297 samples have been tested so far. As many as 26,301 have turned out negative, and 3,996 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,160 cases are currently active. As many as 1,744 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 92 deaths have occurred so far, including five on Wednesday. Among the deceased, 12 are from other districts.

As many as 69 patients were discharged on Wednesday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.

Of the 162 who tested positive on Wednesday, 13 are primary contacts, 70 have ILI symptoms, 18 have SARI symptoms, one has international travel history, and contacts of 60 are being traced.

Among the five deaths that occurred on Wednesday, the first one is a 60-year-old female, a resident of Mangaluru. She was admitted to private hospital on July 18, and breathed her last on July 21. She was suffering from respiratory issues, IHD LV dysfunction, hypertension and uncontrolled diabetic mellitus. The second patient is a 70-year-old female, a resident of Puttur. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 8, and passed away July 21. She suffered from heart disease, chronic hepatitis B and diabetes. The third patient is a 75-year-old female, a resident of Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 19, and passed away on July 21. She suffered from acute coronary syndrome, anteroseptal myocardial infarction, acute kidney injury, Type II diabetes mellitus and chronic hetities B. The fourth patient is 54-year-old man, a resident of Davanagere. He was admitted to a private hospital on June 14, and passed away on July 21. He suffered cardiac arrest, hyperlalemia, acute kidney injury and acute respiratory distress. The fifth patient is a 66-year-old female, from Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 19, and passed away on July 20. She was suffering from ARDS, septic shock, bacterial infection and renal failure.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 2,004 persons are currently in home quarantine.

A total of 189 people are in isolation wards, including 28 fresh admissions on Wednesday. Among the new admissions, six are COVID suspects, 14 have SARI and eight influenza-like illness.

As many as 1,369 people, including 24 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 25,748 samples have been collected so far, including 402 on Wednesday, out of which 31 are COVID suspects and 250 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 22,595 have turned out to be negative, including 135 on Wednesday, and 467 reports are awaited.

As many as 2,686 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 281 on Wednesday. As many as 1,776 patients have been discharged so far including 34 on Wednesday, and 899 cases are currently active. Eleven deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.

Among the new cases, 138 are in Udupi, 118 in Kundapur, and 25 in Karkala. They include 160 men, 100 women, and 10 boys and girls each. As many as 395 are under home isolation.

    Lockdown for atleast 14 days is mandatory to control the infection. But poor people will die in hunger.. something should be done for them.. and no house is following the mask rule etc considering my own locality. Least bothered people are for the daily wages.
    And orthodocs people act like this CORONA doesnt even exist.
    14 days lock down is required to control the infection and people who are ill and can get discharged .. and beds will be available mostly for all.
    Incase if infection goes high this propaganda should be applied to control.
    Otherwise this state is soon to be like mumbai , delhi etc

    I hope government follows this

    Double check the test reports before declaring the figures! Do not declare the healthy and people with other ailments as Corona patients!

    There is and also no doubt that Udupi's coronavirus cases will increase day by day. The worst is yet to come if people don't follow the rules to control this deadly disease which has taken a toll many lives and ruined the economy of all around the world. It is for people to take situation of this to contain this before it is too late.

    Corona viruse incubation period is 14 days..How can a week lockdown solve this issue. Minimum 21 days lockdown is required only to reduce the daily count. Now its just survival of the fittest. Let god protect everyone.

    Nowadays people are not even going for testing. Mild cases are inproving on it s own. So number is much more. But lickdown cannot be forever. Looks like some peiple have enough money for next 100 years and keep asking for kockdown alone
