Second coronavirus infection related death reported in Kasargod

Kasargod, Jul 22: Coronavirus infection has claimed its second victim from the district. A 48-year-old woman living at Anangoor Pachchekkad in the outskirts of the town breathed her last on Wednesday July 22 morning.

The lady was being treated at Kannur Medical College Hospital. After experiencing fever some days ago, she had been admitted into a private hospital here for treatment. During tests, she was found to have contracted coronavirus infection. She was taken to Kannur Medical College Hospital on July 20.

So far the source of her infection could not be confirmed and none of her family members have been infected. However, because the woman tested positive, their throat swabs were collected and sent for testing.

More number of corona-positive cases are emerging in the third stage of infection through contacts. On Tuesday, out of 40, 37 had confirmed to have got infection through contacts. The previous death was in the form of a woman from Uppal Hidayath Nagar on July 18. She had contracted the infection through primary contact.

The first ever coronavirus case was confirmed in the district on February 3. Thereafter, in two phases, 178 were found to have developed the infection. All of them however had recovered. The district which was completely free of coronavirus infection, had started getting infection cases commencing from the first week of May.

In the third stage, 794 had coronavirus infection. Out of them, 311 got the infection from primary contacts. A total of 972 from the district have so far tested positive for this infection, and 542 have been healed and discharged from hospitals. As many as 429 continue to be treated in different hospitals.
