Trump predicts pandemic will 'get worse before it gets better'

Washington, Jul 22 (IANS): President Donald Trump has warned that the US pandemic will probably "get worse before it gets better", as he revived his coronavirus briefings.

Trump also asked all Americans to wear face coverings, saying "they'll have an effect" and show "patriotism", the BBC reported on Tuesday.

He was not wearing a mask at the briefing but has previously downplayed such personal protective equipment.

The president's aides have reportedly asked him to adopt a new tone as virus caseloads spike across the US.

The daily White House news conferences ended soon after Trump suggested in April during freewheeling remarks from the podium that the virus might be treated by injecting disinfectant into people.

In his first White House coronavirus briefing for months on Tuesday, a more scripted president echoed what public health officials on his pandemic task force have been saying as he warned: "It will probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better."

He added: "We're asking everybody that when you are not able to socially distance, wear a mask, get a mask.

"Whether you like the mask or not, they have an impact, they'll have an effect and we need everything we can get."

The president is facing an uphill climb to re-election in November against Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, according to opinion polls.

Trump appeared on Tuesday without the medical experts who used to address the briefings. He kept his remarks brief and focused, avoiding sparring with reporters who asked a few questions.

He continued: "We're asking Americans to use masks, socially distance and employ vigorous hygiene - wash your hands every chance you get, while sheltering high-risk populations.

"We are imploring young Americans to avoid packed bars and other crowded indoor gatherings. Be safe and be smart."

Trump has been reluctant to wear a mask himself in front of the media, claiming that some people only wore such face coverings as a political statement against him. The press pictured him recently wearing a mask for the first time as he visited a military hospital.

    Sincs Virus is airborne, WHO acknowledged the same lately, it will be useless without wearing the mask 24x7 or PPE suit, also how people take advantage of it following article is the best example.

    Some times one should learn from politicians, Trump led the country with his ignorance and arrogance to over 140,000 deaths in US. He was dismissive of threat and blamed everything to everyone except for himself. The virus has spread far and wide because of high level of incompetence.

    Yet, he says he is a great success and shown exceptional leadership where US is leading with million covid tests. There are similar bhakths what we have here in India, who believe him, though their number is less than 5percent, they try to portray themselves as 90perc. Very familiar story to us.

    1. As arrogant as Trump.
    2. Who thinks corona will run by the sounds of taali and thali.
    3. Who thinks the candle will burn the virus.
    4. Who thinks by dropping flower from the plane on hospitals, the virus will be happy and do not harm any more.
    5. Have followers, who perform Homa and worship Goddess Corona.
    6. Who can't even pronounce the English alphabets clearly
    7. Who announces package of crores but nothing actually reached anybody.
    8. Who have followers, who are blind even though they have eyes, who deaf though they have ears.
    9. Who is busy with toppling the government with the money that collected to fight Covid.
    10. Who have no clue how to handle the situation nor has the team that is capable of.

    What do you expect to happen to India and it's economy then??

    In Feb, Trump had called the virus 'new HOAX of Dems' later had mocked at Joe Biden for wearing mask, not to mention ridiculing advice of scientific advisors and touting HCQ as a cure and now circumstances have made him to eat his words.

    Summer times virus usually not that virulent. In winter naturally ideal time for virus to show its force and never know these godless communists might bring their deadlier version of virus as US elections approach to force fraudulent mail voting to grab power so for them to make easier to control the whole world. But God intervenes with something or the other way or may be short term evil rule, before God cleans all evil.
