Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 21: Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday July 21 recorded 149 new cases and five deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 84 fresh cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 29,665 samples have been tested so far. As many as 25,831 have turned out negative, and 3,834 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,070 cases are currently active. As many as 1,675 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 87 deaths have occurred so far, including five on Tuesday. Among the deceased, 12 are from other districts.
As many as 127 patients were discharged on Tuesday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Of the 149 who tested positive on Tuesday, 23 are primary contacts, 67 have ILI symptoms, 22 have SARI symptoms, one has international travel history, and contacts of 15 are being traced.
ASHA and Anganwadi workers under the guidance of taluk health officers will conduct intensive vulnerable people identification survey from July 23 at the identified places of Dakshina Kannada where there are high number of positive cases.
Among the five deaths that occurred on Tuesday is of an 81-year-old man, a resident of Mangaluru. He was admitted to private hospital on July 17, and breathed his last on July 20. He was suffering from respiratory issues. The second patient is a 51-year-old man, a resident of Beltangady. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 20, and passed away on the same day. He suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes and respiratory issues. The third patient, a 65-year-old man, was a resident of Bhatkal. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 12, and passed away on July 20. He suffered from sepsis with septic shock. The fourth patient is a 63-year-old man, a resident of Byadagi Haveri. He was admitted to a private hospital on June 27, and passed away on July 20. He suffered from acute chronic kidney disease and cancer. The fifth patient is a 52-year-old female from Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 19, and passed away on July 20. She was suffering from rheumatic heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 2,013 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 197 people are in isolation wards, including 27 fresh admissions on Tuesday. Among the new admissions, four are COVID suspects, 11 have SARI and 12 influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,345 people, including 12 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 25,346 samples have been collected so far, including 455 on Tuesday, out of which 87 are COVID suspects and 238 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 22,460 have turned out to be negative, including 103 on Tuesday, and 481 reports are awaited.
As many as 2,405 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 84 on Tuesday. As many as 1,742 patients have been discharged so far including 92 on Tuesday, and 653 cases are currently active. Eleven deaths have occurred so far including one 35-year-old Kannur resident on Tuesday. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada. As many as 196 people are in home isolation.
Among the new cases, 37 are in Udupi, 43 in Kundapur, and four in Karkala. They include 48 men, 34 women, and one boy and girl each. Three have travel history to Mangaluru, one each to Bengaluru and Saudi Arabia, and two to Muscat. As many as 23 have ILI symptoms, two have SARI symptoms, and 73 are primary contacts of earlier positive tested patients.
