Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 19: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday July 19 recorded another steep spike in coronavirus cases, with as many as 285 new cases and two deaths reported in the district. Meanwhile, Udupi also reported a spike with 134 new cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 28,784 samples have been tested so far. As many as 25,188 have turned out negative, and 3,596 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,028 cases are currently active. As many as 1,491 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 77 deaths have occured so far, including two on Sunday. Among the deceased, 12 are from other districts.
As many as 104 patients were discharged on Sunday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Among the two deaths that occured on Sunday is of a 77-year-old woman, a resident of Mangaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital on July 9, and breathed her last on July 18. She was suffering from cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and asthma as well. The other patient who died is a 53-year-old man, also a resident of Mangaluru. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 15, and passed away on July 19. He suffered multi-organ dysfunction with septic shock, and also had uncontrolled diabetes.
The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 2,087 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 197 people are in isolation wards, including 27 fresh admissions on Sunday. Among the new admissions, 4 are COVID suspects, 11 have SARI and 12 influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,282 people, including 12 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 24,837 samples have been collected so far, including 455 on Sunday, out of which 87 are COVID suspects and 238 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 22,106 have turned out to be negative, including 349 on Sunday, and 509 reports are awaited.
As many as 2,222 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 134 on Sunday. As many as 1,628 patients have been discharged so far, and 584 cases are currently active. Ten deaths have occured so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada. As many as 42 people were discharged on Sunday, and a total of 98 people are home quarantined.
Among the new cases, 60 are in Udupi, 52 in Kundapur, and 23 in Karkala. They include 70 men, 55 women, three boys and seven girls. Three have travel history to Mangaluru, one each to Mumbai, Chennai and Dubai, and four to Bengaluru.
