Kasargod: POCSO accused ends life in hospital during quarantine

Kasargod, Jul 19: A man who was booked under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act ended his life here on Sunday July 19. He had been quarantined in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Shaijo Damodaran (38) of Vellarikundu Malom.

He had been admitted to Poodamkallu taluk hospital and was under observation.

On Sunday evening, he was found hanging in the bathroom of the hospital.

He had been booked under POCSO Act for allegedly harassing a 16-year-old boy and was arrested on July 15. He was later sent to judicial custody.

He had earlier also been accused of sexually harassing a girl.

Sources said that he had previously attempted suicide by trying to slit his wrist. The police had rushed him to the district hospital.

Shaijo had been quarantined in the hospital and tested for coronavirus. His reported had turned out to be negative, after which the police were preparing to shift him back to the prison. However, before they could arrive, he ended his life.
