Bengaluru, Jul 18: Though the lockdown is in force off and on since the month of March, there is no dearth of marriages taking place in the state of Karnataka during this period also.
According to a report the registration of marriages in the state has not reduced even during the coronavirus pandemic restrictions. Those who wanted to get married and get their children married have done so even with few guests.
According to the records available with the registrar of marriages in the state, more than 40,000 marriages have taken place throughout the state. Out of this, Ballari district has taken the top spot with nearly 12,000 marriages. During normal time, the records of marriages will not be available accurately as many do not register their marriages at all. However, due to the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic, it is made mandatory to register the marriages before the actual function. So the government has accurate records this time.
A senior officer working with the district marriage registration department in Ballari says that compared to last year, the number of marriages have increased this year due to the compulsory registration which is made mandatory before the marriages. Last year 1,141 marriages were registered in the district. This year within three months 12,300 marriages are registered.
In rural areas, marriages of VIP persons has taken place with people gathering in huge numbers. Online marriages have also taken place during the lockdown.
