Unlock day 40: DK sees biggest single-day jump with 311 cases, eight deaths; 84 in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 17: In yet another major spike which is the single-day highest ever in the district, Dakshina Kannada on Friday July 17 recorded 311 cases and eight deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 84 new cases.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 26,242 samples have been sent for tests so far. As many as 23,168 have turned out negative, and 3,074 are positive till date. Out of these, 1,725 cases are currently active. As many as 1,278 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 71 deaths have occurred so far including eight on Friday. Twelve of the deceased out of the 71 are from other districts.

As many as 115 patients were discharged on Friday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.

The patients whose deaths were reported on Friday are a 72-year-old female and two males aged 56 and 72 from Mangaluru, a 70-year-old male from Sirsi, 69-year-old male from Davanagere, 53-year-old male from Sullia, 68-year-old male from Bhatkal and a male aged 65 from Beltangady.

Public Grievance and Reddressal cells has been established in 12 places to readdress Covid-19 issues in urban local bodies. Mangaluru City Corporation, Bantwal TMC, Beltangady, TMC Moodbidiri, Mulki town panchayat, Puttur CMC, Sullia town panchayat, Ullal CMC, Vitla TP, Kotekar, Someshwara TMC and Kadaba taluk panchayat are the 12 public grievance and reddressal cell.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and a total of 4,875 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 2,124 persons are currently in home quarantine.

A total of 163 people are in isolation wards, including 32 fresh admissions on Friday. Among the new admissions, 15 are coronavirus suspects, 12 have SARI and five influenza-like illness.

As many as 1,239 people, including 24 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 23,858 samples have been collected so far, including 213 on Friday, out of which 153 are COVID contacts. Out of them, 21,465 samples have turned out to be negative, including 309 on Friday, and 414 reports are awaited.

As many as 1,979 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 84 on Friday. As many as 1,543 patients have been discharged so far including 81 on Friday, and 429 cases are currently active. Eight deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.

    Bengaluru, Jul 17 (IANS): Asserting that lockdown was not a solution to contain the coronavirus pandemic, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said on Friday that the nine-day lockdown would not be extended after Monday night.

    "Lockdown will not be extended after Monday night as it is not a solution to control the pandemic," the Chief Minister said after reviewing the situation with some cabinet ministers and senior officials at his home office in the city centre.

    As advised by the experts, the state government has put Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts under nine-day lockdown from July 14 to July 22 to contain the spread of the virus, which spread rapidly since July 1 under Unlock 2.0.

    Urging citizens to stay at home during the lockdown, Yediyurappa said that people should compulsorily wear mask, wash hands and maintain social distancing to avoid the risk of getting infected.

    "The city will return to normalcy from July 22, as lockdown will not be extended," asserted Revenue Minister R. Ashok after the meeting on breaking the virus chain during the nine-day shutdown in the city's urban and rural areas.

    Admitting that lockdowns only postpone the inevitable, Ashoka said that there is no end to lockdown as if it is extended, it will only continue on and on.

    "By lockdown we can only postpone things; we have taken a breathing time. If we extend, it will continue on and on," Ashoka said.

    The meeting with ministers who are in-charge of the containment zones across the city discussed measures to seal down the hotspots to prevent the citizens from venturing out of their homes.

    Tel me how many places you will you sanitize just because a few.people were CORONA+ve) & how are you sure that a single viral particle doesn't remain behind & start multiplying process again!
    What if the next day another few people walk in & unwittingly spread the transmission again??
    One has to remember, it's an "airborne virus" & can anybody catch it if he is exposed to.air?
    All this hype & hoopla created by the CORONA cartel will benefit the sanitizer mfg cos who would have made their millions by the time the virus goes away!
    But, such is the CORONA phobia created by media that the socioeconomic consequences of this virus will create a havoc which will be multifactorial! Already poor people have started dying of hunger & other diseases, suicides, divorces, burglaries & what not!

    The above is only a very personal opinion based on my knowledge and information on the subject, & not an advice!

    Cases increasing because public are having callous attitude towards the disease. There is Ann incident where a staff working in the administrative dept of the a leading public sector Bank is diagnosed with corona. It was leave heard that they sanitised the room he was working and made his colleagues to work in the same building. In fact as per govt rule all the staff working in the building are to be quarantined. Wat is the plight of an uneducated man if this is the reponswe of a educated society.

    What you're telling is a 100% fact! I have heard from so many interns, especially from govt run centres that all the interventions are forced upon interns & nurses& low end COVID19 warriors and the top consultants never even bother to come near the patient but give instructions on videophone; these consultants are even afraid to touch the case papers afraid of acquiring fomites infection, such is the real ground reality which many may refuse to believe! It's actually a farce with controls in the hands of poor CORONA warriors who got their daily bread are forced to listen to their bosses diktats! With no senior & experienced docs around, it'll be anybody's guess as to how poor patients are perishing & the blame goes to CORONA!!

    In Mumbai some etichal, educated & bold people have started openly challenging rogue pvt hospitals who Just for treating common cold keep you admitted for a few days & door out bills for lacs, they do not release the dead bodies unless the exorbitant fake Bill is paid up. These hospitals have bouncers too who physically abuse you if you demand meeting the management & demand answers for your genuine queries; from their behaviour they appear to be dangerous than extortinists!!
    I will give you more facts along with link to YouTube videos of the ground level situation!
    BTW, middle class peoples financial conditions have hit rock bottom, many are not able to pay EMIs, no jobs, hospitality industry is ruined; when moratorium time is over, one can expect a spate of suicides & illegal activities flourishing! 2/3rds of our population was already going hungry before gst & demo, now imagine what it'll be like!
    Tribals in various parts of Maharashtra have become so poverty stricken that they are substiting on jungle tree leaves!

    It looks that we may have to really extend the lockdown. These are partly result of the “unlocking “ and reckless attitude of the people with scant respect for the simple instructions given by the Govt. We cannot keep blaming the Govt all the time forgetting our own responsibilities. Now that people failed, the administration needs to be very tough so that lives can be saved.

    Only Post Graduate Residents, Interns, Nurses and ward boys deployed in Covid duty get infections .

    Private practitioners too got corona infection accidentally from their patients. But, doctors on payroll of Government as permanent staff have never heard of got infected while on "duty". Things are happening everywhere like this at Bangalore, Bellary, Davanagare, Mangalore, Bidar etc...etc...These special class, the integral part of a corrupt health care system, is not known to have any special immunity to cytokine shock. Any secret for this covid immunity to this class.....? This is a hundred billion dollar question. Can anybody guess....?

    Just a gimmick with lockdown. Who gains what, God only knows. It's a shame that things are not been controlled.
    Some authority have to take some bold decision n not for name sake.
    Why can't you all declare a complete lockdown, who is going to die if essentials not available for 10 days. Allow only medical shops to open and close each and every establishment.
    You go to industrial areas, staffs are threatened of losing jobs.
    For example go to thaneerbhavi n see some Mrpl related companies work with full strength, no one to ask their plight.
    What's the use of lockdown, how's it going to work. What's media doing, let them move around the district n show how's restrictions are violated. It doesn't make sense by pointing out the number of casualties. Show your capacity by means of showing how well everything is controlled.

    There is a lot of confusion between dying from COVID19 and dying with COVID19. Like earlier the detected cases may be a fraction of actual number of cases. Which means we may see a decline of the disease soon.
