Bengaluru, Jun 26: Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa, has clarified that there is no question of declaring lockdown again for the time being as the economic situation is very bad now.

Since a week, the city has been witnessing a huge spurt in the number of coronavirus positive cases. Therefore, the CM has planned to hold several meetings with legislators today. Before participating in a series of meetings, he spoke to media persons at the Vidhana Soudha. He said he has called meetings of MLAs from all the parties and that discussions will be held with them relating to bringing the coronavirus situation under control. "I expect the MLAs to take steps in their respective legislative constituencies to improve the situation," he narrated.

The CM dismissed speculations about declaring lockdown in the city. "The economic condition is not good. It has started improving. There is no lockdown proposal in the city. We will take suggestions which may be offered by the opposition seriously and move ahead in handling the coronavirus situation with utmost sincerity," he explained.

Revenue minister, Ashok, had confirmed on Thursday that there is no plan to announce lockdown. However, some Congress and JD(S) legislators have been insisting on imposing lockdown. Some BJP MLAs too feel that lockdown can be clamped in pockets where it is found necessary. The government will pool all these opinions and take a decision after July 4 as SSLC examinations are currently on, it is said.
