Bengaluru: Violating visa norms - Court awards sentences to Tablighi activists

Bengaluru, Jun 26: A court of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) here has handed down sentences to five Tablighi Jamaat activists for taking part in religious activities in India in violation of visa terms.

The court awarded 27 days imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine to five foreign Tablighis. It also ordered for their deportations to their respective countries upon the completion of the jail terms. Three of the Tablighis are from England, France and Kenya. Two others are from Kazakhstan.

The accused had arrived in Mumbai and Delhi on tourist visas. From there, they came to the city and stayed at Kumaraswamy Layout where they got involved with religious propagation, it is said. They had, through this act, violated the visa rules. Kumaraswamy Layout police had registered a case against them on May 5 and filed a charge sheet.
