Panaji, Jun 25 (IANS): Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday directed the police to strictly enforce social distancing norms and wearing of masks, as the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state crept close to 1,000.
"Police are working well, but sometimes they do not get cooperation from the people. I have directed them to strictly enforce social distancing norms and wearing of masks, especially in the market areas," Sawant told reporters, after taking a review of the crime situation and enforcement undertaken by the police in view of the corona pandemic.
Goa was a Covid-free state for more than a month until late May, when the number of infected cases started piling up.
Sawant said that he was particularly concerned about people not wearing masks in markets and other open areas, including in public transport, which he said could spread infections further.
"We are dealing with corona control, but people sometimes do not understand," Sawant said.
