Mumbai, Jun 20: An infant who swallowed a safety pin by accident was saved because of the presence of mind of a Mumbai police constable. The concerned policeman is being lauded on social media for his brave and timely action.

Mumbai police also gave the details of how the cop was able to help the parents of the 14-day-old infant reach the baby to the hospital on time.

The parents of the baby, which had accidentally swallowed a safety pin were on the road and were trying to take the baby to the hospital. The Mumbai police constable S Kolekar, who noticed the couple, did not waste time and took them to KEM hospital on time in his own vehicle so that the child received timely medical assistance and was saved.

Mumbai police took this instance to inform and also advise the public to take the assistance of the policeman in their area when they are need. The department tweeted the whole incident with the caption 'When in doubt, find your nearest Cop!' It also used the snap of the cop who helped the parents of the choking baby and wrote 'Citizen Safety: Pinned to the top' and the hashtag Mumbaifirst.

Netizens were quick to heap praise on the cop for his timely action which saved the child's life. The post received 5,900 likes and was retweeted by 700 bloggers.

This post comes immediately after a constable of Mumbai police who donated his blood to a 14-year-old girl, who was operated on open-heart surgery. In this incident that took place early June, Ashok Gaikwad, constable of Mumbai police was lauded by people on social media for donating his blood to the girl, whose relatives could not reach the hospital on time to give the same as the girl had to undergo emergency open-heart surgery.
