Panaji, Feb 12: Two to three mysterious explosion-like sounds triggered confusion in South Goa coast area Thursday. The cause of the sound has not yet been ascertained, police said late evening.
Speaking to IANS, superintendent of Police (SP) Allen D'Sa said the explosion-like sounds were heard in the afternoon.
"Two or three explosion-like sounds were heard along a radius of 50 km in South Goa," D'Sa said, adding that the sounds were heard right from Cuncolim, a town near Margao, 40 km from here, up to Mashem, a village near the Karnataka border.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ravindra Yadav said police were in touch with the Coast Guard on this issue.
"The Coast Guard said they were told about the sounds in the deep sea by fishermen," Yadav said, adding that the Coast Guard too had not been able to track down the cause of the sounds.
