Vijayapura, Jun 16: A video of a man wearing a burqa getting thrashed by a mob is going viral on social media.
The incident took place on June 11 in Sindgi outside a bank, a report by The Hindu stated. The man who is on the receiving end of the people's rage is a person named Siddu Paragond, a resident of Sindgi town of the district.
A section of the media, including Gulf News, claimed that the man was a BJP activist. Sources also claimed that the man was thrashed after he was allegedly caught hoisting Pakistan flag while wearing the burqa, but others stated that he was trying to get close to women standing in a queue.
"While people including women were standing in a queue outside the bank, the person in burqa was acting suspiciously. The person was trying to get too close to women which was making them uncomfortable. People standing there grew suspicious, some locals tried to interact but their suspicions rose as soon as the person began behaving strangely. Suddenly some men took the person away from the bank and checked only to find that it was a man in burqa. The locals then thrashed him and handed him over to police," the sources said, as quoted by The Hindu.
Confirming this, superintendent of police Anupam Agrawal said that the Siddu Paragond has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the police clarified that no suspicious objects were found on the accused. "We are trying to find out the motive for his act," the SP said.
