Beltangady: 22 accidents in two weeks on Charmadi Ghat due to faulty repair of road

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (MS)

Beltangady, Jun 14: The number of accidents are increasing on Charmadi Ghat even before the onset of monsoon on full scale.

The front portion of a car got completely mangled when it collided with a mini goods tempo that was carrying vegetables. The car was plying from Dharmasthala to Bengaluru. The tempo fell into a roadside drain. Luckily, occupants of the tempo escaped unhurt.

In total, 22 accidents have reportedly taken place on Charmadi Ghat in the last two weeks. Out of this, six were of serious nature. Recently, the highway department had applied tar on 11 curves right from the beginning of the ghat. The commuters are complaining that this tar is very smooth and during rainy season, brakes do not get applied and vehicles are skidding leading to accidents.

In addition, due to lockdown, though the number of vehicles are less, their high speed is the reason for the increase in number of accidents on the road.

Newly repaired roads must be approved by qualified civil/safety Engineers before opening for traffic to assure safety standards of traction between the tire and the surface are met.clearly a botched job ,contractor and the MLAs got their money.

Driving on ghat roads needs skill especially in rainy season and at night. Most of the tourist vehicle drivers are not used to driving in these conditions. They overspeed and do not follow certain rules to be followed on ghat section.

Drivers are responsible for accidents, why blame others ?control speed limit, keep safe distance , If sufficient space and clarity in front sight only overtake.before start drive apply break and check if breaks are week.At ghat section keep away from loaded trucks. Dont hurry to reach early.better start early, reach safely

Sadly noted many number of vehicles with South Kanara registration overspeeding, driving rashly & not following rules of driving in ghats where overtaking on curves is prohibited. When roads are good overtaking takes place & very less places on this stretch when we can overtake. Lawless People to blame, why blame roads.

Naach na jaane, aangan tedha. Stupid people driving rashly and then blaming the road. We don't deserve good roads since most drivers see good roads and become Schumacher.
