Mumbai, Jun 10: A lawyers' association in Mumbai demanded to halt the regular court hearings due to the explosion of cases in the city. Lower court sessions, civil and magistrates' courts resumed on Monday June 9, after two months gap during which only urgent matter hearings took place such as application for police custody or interim bail.
The Bombay high court had issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the courts to function, however, the association claimed that while physically appearing in the courts, it is not possible to follow the SOPs and the rising number of coronavirus cases in the city is causing anxiety among the advocates getting exposed to the virus.
It said that it is not possible for the advocates to reach the courts from distant suburbs as there are no local trains. The letter added that the SOP given did not mention any concern for the safety of the advocates.
