New Delhi: Former Union Minister, Ram Niwas Mirdha, No More

New Delhi, Jan 30: Veteran Congress leader and former union minister, Ram Niwas Mirdha(87), breathed his last in a hospital here, on Friday January 29.

Mirdha, who also had functioned as the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha from March 1977 to April 1980 and as the speaker of Rajasthan assembly, had been admitted into the private hospital on January 21, with urinal infection.

His eldest son had died on January 28 last year. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

As a union minister, he had handled home, textiles, irrigation, health and family welfare, external affairs departments and as a minister of state for communication. His funeral is scheduled to be held in Kuchera village in Nagore district of Rajasthan, which happens to be his native place, on Saturday.
