Mangalore, Jan 28: After the son of a former MLA and his supporters allegedly threatened Bajpe sub-inspector of police, Pramod Kumar, on Wednesday January 27, one of them was arrested.
It is said that Vijayanand Sullia (42), son of Subbaiah Naik, the first MLA of Sullia, had been pressurizing Pramod Kumar over phone, to issue no-objection letter for setting up of an underground petroleum storage unit for Indian Stratetic Petroleum Reserves Ltd (ISPRL), proposed to be set up as part of Mangalore Special Economic Zone, in Permude village. Vijayanand, accompanied by two of his supporters, came to the police station on Wednesday and reportedly threatened the sub-inspector, warning that he would teach a lesson to the sub-inspector, if he fails to issue the no-objection latter as requested.
Vijayanand was arrested for creating obstacles to the government employee while discharging his duties. Vijayanand is said to have also faced a case relating to threatening Sullia sub-inspector, Kamble, in 1985. He was produced in a court.
