Kolkota, Jan 28: Prabhushankar Aggarwal, owner of Haldirams, a household name for supplying quality sweets, confectionaries and other eatables through retail shops, was convicted in an attempt to murder case by a local sessions court on Wednesday January 27.
Aggarwal, who owns a stall in Burra Bazar in the city, is accused of trying to kill Pramod Sharma, who runs a tea stall opposite to his place of business. Aggarwal is accused of hiring sharpshooter Gopal Tiwari, Raja Sonkar, Manoj Thakur and Arun Khandelwal to kill Sharma. However, when Tiwari entered the home of Sharma on March 30, 2005 and fired at him, Sharma had escaped with bullet injuries to his leg. Sharma thereafter, had filed a police complaint.
While Tiwari had been referred to a correctional home, Aggarwal and the other three accused had secured bail. They were present when the judgment was pronounced by Tapan Sen, judge of the fourth fast track court. They were immediately arrested. Their quantum of punishment will be made known on Friday January 29, the judge said.
