Udupi, Jan 26: State home minister, Dr V S Acharya, who also is the in-charge minister for the district, hoisted the national flag at the district level republic day function organized at the Ajjarkad ground here Tuesday January 26.
Acharya also inspected the guard of honour provided to him by the policemen. An attractive march past was organized on the occasion, by the policemen and students from various schools. The children presented variety cultural programmes on the occasion.
In his address, the home minister reminded the people that Republic Day is the day on which our constitution was adopted, and India became a republic, adding that this is a proud moment for all the Indians. Acharya said that the state government is development-oriented and is committed to achieve development of the state. "The government has been implementing various schemes to achieve this goal. We have been giving top prioritity to the improvement the infrastrcuture facilities in the state. At the same time, steps are being taken to monitor the use of funds, to ensure that the funds are properly and optimally used for the purpose for which they are sanctioned. We have achieved several milestones during the last 18 months. The state government has initiated steps to improve law and order situation," he claimed.
District deputy commissioner, P Hemalata, and superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, were present.
The minister also felicitated the achievers on the occasion.
