Afridi Wants to Build Relations between India and Pakistan

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi says he is willing to forgive and forget the happenings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction and if he is invited to play in India he would do so happily.

In a statement carried Tuesday by cricket site pakpassion.net from London, Afridi said he was deeply hurt and angry by the way the Pakistani players were treated at the auction, but he wants to treat the issue as closed.

"Over the last few days there has been intense media attention on the IPL auction in Pakistan and India. After my explanation, Insha Allah, the matter will be closed.

"After the IPL auction I was deeply hurt and angry. The way Pakistani players were treated was disrespectful and, in my view, wrong. Whose fault it was..I don't know. In times like these, as a Muslim, the examples of our Prophet has guided me and I'm therefore willing to forgive and forget what has happened and look forward," said Afridi.

He said there is much in common between India and Pakistan as they share much more than they differ and they need to build their relations rather than break them.

"When you look at the great work that has been done by the "Amaan Ki Asha" project of The 'Jang Group' of Pakistan and The Times of India, we realise that is how we need to move forward. Sport should be used to build peace between our great nations, not break them.

"If I was invited to play in India again I would do so happily. They have great fans and great stadiums and I have many friends there. Although Pakistan and India have borders, these borders cannot divide humanity," said Afridi who now wants to work for Aman Ki Asha.

India should stop all relations with Pakistan till the terror training camps specifically in operation only to target India are dismantled. If only SRK and our home minister were to have been at the taj or oberoi or some of their loved were killed during 26/11 would not have kissed the pak players boots

Shahid I know you have been misquoted. What was implied was “my wallet has gotten lighter and I am willing to forgive and forget you’ll for that". Now, I am broke I promise that the money I earn will be used for my personal needs only, and not a single paise will used to fund LeT and other terrorist groups operating from my country. I am aware of the death and destruction they have brought over the years so please “forgive and forget” us for that

I praise the Franchisee owners who reacted to 26/11 massacre and made the best impact. Great decision. You are the true Indians who gave it the peaceful way. Afridi thinks he will get another chance to play as if other better players are not available.

"ready to Forgive and forget?" Why did he not vulnteer to "build these relations" when Indians were killed time and again by the terrorists trained in camps in his country and are still being let loose on Indian soil to create havoc in India? Like a gentleman he should respect the wishes of the IPL ors and honour them with dignity, not shed these crocodile tears for losing out on quick cash. Does he not know that the diplomacy of the Indian government does not reflect in the mindset of Indians massacred mercilessly for being Indian......

You guys can only comments. You do not know the mood of the masses in Pakistan after the IPL auction. Money we say is a issue to the players but for the masses its become a pride issue. This man is having the guts to say that he is ready to forget, imagine what he might face in Pakistan. The act what he has done is called standing for peace. I appreciate him. And for all other political issues with Pakistan I agree on our govt. stand.

Dear Mr. Shahid Afridhi, Indians are enough to make peace with Pakistan. First of all dismantle Taliban and Al Qaidah within Pakistan. Eliminate terrorism and acid attacks on females. Also in the name of shia and sunni several people are dying in your own country use your time and over time for that matter. First keep your own house in order.

Why should the Paki Players make a big deal for not being picked for IPL, Its a matter of choice,We dont want to pick them , so be it .. what is insulting & humilating ... Of course its the money that they wont get thats worrying them .& what does Afridi mean he's ready to FOrgive & forget ... If thay are not ed will they wage a war ??? Its not that Pakis are treated bad in INdia.

Every One knows Adnan Sami has a Plush home in Mumbai & enjoys his rights , Atif Aslam gets payed a handsome amount for his services ..So many instances to prove that we dont diffrenciate ... DO you think Sonu Nigam / Shaan would be able to enjoy the same benifits as their Artists ??
