Whopping 3 lakh demanded by private buses to ferry migrants home

Panaji, May 25: Amid coronavirus crisis private bus operators are demanding unjustifiable 3 lakh per bus to ferry workers back home to Odisha as per sources. These workers were engaged mainly in tourism sector.

John Lobo shack owners’ welfare society general secretary said the authorities of West Bengal and Odisha are making no arrangements for trains to take back their workers from Goa.

The workers stuck are eager to go home before the monsoon. Some have managed to book buses to come and pick them up from their native states.

John Lobo said “Buses from Odisha are charging them Rs 1,98,000, which is much less than the Rs 3 lakh being charged by Goan bus operators,”

Around 20 buses with 45 passengers each have already left Goa with workers from the tourism sector, as per sources.

Mr Lobo added “The workers are paying from their own pockets and some employers have also contributed.”
