Kasargod, Jan 21: The local policemen have been given to understand that Ikku alias Iqbal from Chattanchal, who is the main accused in the murder of Balakrishnan (30) from Paduvadka near Vidyanagar here, has been nabbed by the Interpol officers in Dubai.
Balakrishnan, who managed a private courier firm near the old bus stand in the city, had been forcibly taken away in a car on September 18, 2001, and killed him near the Chandragiri Bridge. The deceased was an active Youth Congress activist.
Two other accused in the case had been arrested long back. After Gopalan, retired tahsildar and father of Balakrishnan, who resides at Paduvadka near Vidyanagar, approached the court, urging the court to direct the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the case was handed over to the CBI. The CBI had sought the help of the Interpol, after learning that Iqbal had escaped to the Gulf.
