Mangalore, Jan 21: MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, directed the officials of various departments to keep constantly monitoring the progress, present status and quality of various works being implemented under different schemes of the government.
“People come to us, seeking information about different schemes, and we furnish to them the information that the officials give us. If the information given by you is defective, we face the wrath of the people for furnishing false information. Hence, the officials should furnish accurate and correct information. I will fully cooperate with you. You should also cooperate with me in making sure that the fruits of the schemes reach the beneficiaries,” he added.
He was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of the Rural Development Project of the union government, held under the aegis of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee in the city on Wednesday January 20.
He advised the officials to ensure that the execution of the work is speedy and that the fruits of various government schemes reach the people they are aimed to benefit. He wanted them also to work harder to improve the performance of Dakshina Kannada district, which now been placed at the bottom of the chart as far as the performance under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is concerned, and to see that it goes several places above in the chart.
When the MP was told that the road from Tokur Railway Gate to Kana, laid under the Prime Ministers Grama Sadak Yojana recently at a cost of Rs 1.02 crore, now lies within the land acquired for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone, he expressed resentment at not taking steps to recover the cost of the road from the concerned.
Zilla panchayat president, Santosh Kumar Bhandary, vice-president, Jagannath Salian, zilla panchayat chief planning officer, Takat Rao, etc., were present.
