Panaji, May 20: Amid rising coronavirus cases, the Goa police have considered enforcing a strict vigil during lockdown between 7 pm to 7 am, to forbid people to come out on the streets. North Goa superintendent of police, Utkrisht Prasoon in a report by TOI stated that the police was undertaking surprise checks at public places to see whether people were wearing masks or not.

Prasoon also claimed that the police personnel were involved in the process of helping migrants reach their villages. Although there were instances of the migrants threatening to walk home if arrangements to ferry them were not made.

With migrant labourers stranded in Goa getting restless waiting to return to their native states, inspector general of police (IGP) Jaspal Singh directed Goa police personnel to 'deal with migrants with compassion'.

Around 1 lac migrant labourers have registered with the nodal officer to leave Goa, of which 15,000 have already left via bus, trains and other private vehicles.
