Panaji, Jan 12: Goa Police have finally began collecting much crucial evidence in Russian rape case with accused John Fernandes in their custody.
A senior crime branch officer stated that John today showed them the site of offence where he allegedly raped the girl.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaoncar told daijiworld that the accused showed police the site where the alleged incident happened near Colva beach.
Crime Branch officials also took the accused to his residence in colva village to collect more evidence in this rape case wherein John had allegedly raped 25 year old Russian girl by spiking her drinks on December 1.
Salgaoncar said that the accused was also taken to the shack where he had met the victim on the fateful night.
Crime branch, who could arrest John on Jan 8 after his month long period of absconding have got seven days police custody, for further custodial interrogation required to chargesheet the case.
Salgaoncar said that they have not been able to get the clothes, which John wore during the offence. John on earlier occasion had submitted wrong clothes to the police, which were verified by the eyewitnesses.
John, who unsuccessfully contested 2007 state legislative assembly elections from Benaulim constituency, has been in dock for allegedly raping a Russian girl.
His anticipatory bail, which was granted by district and sessions court was later rejected by Panaji bench of Bombay high court and even Supreme court refused to stay the high court order.
Police have now said that they will also nail those people who helped John remain absconding. Crime branch had issued look out circular against John, who was in hiding within the country.
