Mangalore, Jan 9: “The state’s chief minister is using police power and handcuffing the farmers and pro-people activists. But it will not continue long as people of the state will handcuff him soon”, said G V Sri Rama Reddy, former MLA and state leader of Communist Party of India –Marxist (CPI (M)).
Addressing a protest in front of Ullal police station, organized by the CPI (M), condemning the arrest of innocents by the Ullal police allegedly in an attempt to favour the moral police, he said that this rule with the help of the police will not continue as people will not tolerate it if the ‘lathi’ of the police beats them continuously.
“The arrest of innocent people belonging to the CPI(M) in Ullal is without knowing the history of the party which is fighting for the poor people and sufferers of injustice. It has a history of strong agitations against British rule”, he said, adding that the police should know the facts and should respect the truth else they will face strong opposition.
The protesters carried placards against Ullal police and held banners accusing the police of favouritism towards the moral police.
Leaders of the party B Madhava, Vasantha Achari, Balakrishna Shetty, Krishnappa Salian, and Muneer Katipalla also addressed the protest. The protest started with a march from Ullal Junction to the police station.
