Dubai, May 5: A video conference meeting on the Executive Council of Dubai was held by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and chairman of Dubai Executive Council. Dignitaries present at the meeting were HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and members of the council.
During the course of the meeting, the members analyzed the operational plans of the Dubai Food Security Committee and further assessed the present opportunities and challenges within the framework of the national food security strategy. They also explored methods by which food trade and distribution could be increased, ways to diversify import sources, support local food production, reduce food waste and improve the safety of food.
The Crown Prince urged that in order to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on food security and to meet the food needs of the citizens at reasonable costs, all the concerned government entities have to unite. All must combine their strengths and resources in order to manage this situation. Local and federal departments are to work closely and manage food security.
In spite of the global crisis, Dubai is fully prepared and has sufficient food reserves to serve its people. The needs of the citizens and residents are of top priority and there are specialized teams working to fulfill these needs, said Sheikh Hamdan.
The prices of food items in Dubai has remained stable and affordable. Statistics further show that the global crisis has not affected the city’s strategic food reserves and efficient flow of supplies from international markets.
