Karwar, Jan 2: Karwar diocese celebrated the New Year by organizing ‘Sambhramotsava – 2010’ at the beach here from 5 pm to 9 pm, with the theme, ‘Love One Another’ on Friday January 1.
The programme, held at Mayura Varma Vedike of Tagore Beach here, was directed by Bro T K Gorge of Davangere and Bro Lizo of Kerala.
Msgr Simon Tellis, vicar general and parish priest of the cathedral of Karwar, welcomed the gathering. Bishop of the local diocese presided. In his address, he impressed on the need for the people to achieve inner peace and strive for the world peace. Saying that Jesus Christ had left the message of peace to the world, he asked the people to practice Christ’s preaching of love and forgiveness. He invited people to walk in His path, and greeted the people for the New Year. He prayed and blessed the gathering.
Chief guest, S P Kamath, an eminent advocate and educationist of Canara Welfare Trust, in his message, said that Jesus Christ is for all. He asked the people to extend their support for building a peaceful community. “People of Karwar have always stood by this principle. Let us continue to follow this principle,” he requested.
Chief guest, R G Nayak, Karwar Urban Development Authority chairmen and social worker, also asked the people to follow what Christ had taught. He also stressed that Christ is for all.
Bro T K George of Davanagere, a cine artiste, dramatist and Orchestra conductor then led those present through a three-hour session of praise and worship. The people celebrated the evening with great joy. Fr Roman Pinto, youth director from Shimoga enacted the biblical themes, Parable of prodigal son and Healing the blind man.
Fr Franklin, regional youth director, Bangalore, prayed for the people. Fr Stany Pinto of Karwar compered the programme.
