Mangalore, Dec 31: Even as Subrhamanya and surrounding areas in Sullia taluk in the district received heavy rains on Tuesday December 29 night, followed by intermittent rains on Wednesday, the meteorological department has predicted that the rains will lose their intensity in a couple of days.
Heavy rain caused lot of inconveniences for the devotees thronging the temple town, Subrhamanya. Because of the rain, the number of devotees visiting the temple witnessed a slight decline on Wednesday. The city and Sullia, apart from some places of Udupi and Kasargod districts, received some rains on Wednesday.
The plains of Chikmagalur district were battered by heavy rains. Tarikere recorded 12 cms of rain in four hours. Kote Ramanaykana Kere tank of Tarikere overflowed, inundating several low-lying areas nearby. Several other tanks in the district also are brimming with water.
The administration employed backhoes to divert the overflowing water from the said tank, and succeeded in averting a likely tragedy. Farmers all along the district including Balehonnur, have lost hopes of saving their paddy, jowar and horse gram crops because of standing water.
