Mumbai: Veteran litterateur, Karnataka H B L Rao passes away

Mumbai, Apr 23: Hejamadi Bagilthaya Laxminarayana Rao (87) well known as H B L Rao passed away at Vashi Nerul MGM hospital after a massive cardiac arrest.

He was the founder of Sahitya Balaga, Mumbai, president of Padaveedhara Yakshagana Samiti, Mumbai, Shivalli Prathistana Mumbai, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maharashtra unit, Karnataka Yakshagana Academy Bengaluru, honorary secretary of Pravachana Samithi Mumbai, member of Karnataka Gamaka Kala Parishat Maharashtra and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and had provided immense service.

He was the son of Hejmady, undivided Dakshina Kannada resident Ayurveda doctor Madhava Rao and Bhavani Rao. He had passed B A in Mumbai in 1967, held LLB and MA degree in philosophy.

He has left behind his wife Sudha Rao, daughter Padmavati Bhat, son-in-law Udaya Bhat, granddaughter Shubhashree Bhat, a large number of friends, relatives and art lovers.

Several elite persons and well placed Kannadigas expressed their condolences on his demise. Several of his fans and relatives expressed regrets that they could not pay their last respects to him due to the lockdown restrictions.
