Mangalore, Dec 23: On the occasion of Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali celebrating its platinum jubilee year, and also this year being the birth centenary year of the late Keremane Shivaram Hegde, ‘Amruta Mahotsava’ celebrations will be organized for three days from December 25, at Gunavante in Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
At ‘Amruta Mahotsava’, various programmes and seminars will be organized. The event will be initiated at 4.30 pm on December 25 by Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, by unveiling the statue of Keremane Shambhu Hegde. Primary and secondary education minister, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, will inaugurate the birth centenary year celebrations of Keremane Shivaram Hegde. Union law and justice minister, Veerappa Moily, will inaugurate the open air theatre, while Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, R V Deshpande, will dedicate the open air theatre to the public.
Corporation Bank general manager, A Mohan Rao, will inaugurate the exhibition being held on this occasion. Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Pradipkumar Kalkura will release ‘Keremane Shambhu Hegde Memories’. Writer, Jayant Kaikini, will release ‘Amruta Putthali’ commemorative work, informed Keremane Shivanand Hegde, director of Idagunji Mela, at a press conference held here on Monday December 21.
Hostota Manjunath Bhagawath will be conferred the ‘Keremane Shivaram Hegde’ award. Venkatachalapati, a sculptor from Bangalore, arts patron, Kollur Narasmha Bhat, and entrepreneur, Maranakatte Krishnamurty Manja, will be honoured. Dr M Prabhakar Joshi will deliver the keynote address, he explained.
The drama festival being held annually by Idagunji Mela will be inaugurated at 7 pm on December 25. Well known artistes will be in action at this programme, he informed.
The valedictory function, to be held at 3.30 pm on December 27, will be presided over by state Yakshagana Academy president, Kumble Sundar Rao. Sonda Swarnawalli Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swamiji will be present. State home minister, Dr V S Acharya, and other dignitaries will be present. Various Yakshagana artistes will be honoured on this occasion, he added.
